In a last ditch effort to cement his legacy and appeal to the voting public, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned several infrastructural projects in the Rift Valley and Western regions of the country. The president made a visit to Kericho County in the Rift Valley, where he laid the foundation stone for an expressway that will connect Eldoret town to Kisumu Airport.

He also opened a modern market in Kisii town and flagged off construction of a water pipeline from Lake Victoria to supply Nairobi with water. Days later, on his final stop in Siaya County before elections next week, President Kenyatta inaugurated a Sh2 billion road project linking Bondo town with Ugenya Constituency. This brings the total number of projects commissioned by the president during his tour of these two regions to nine.

Critics say that most of these projects were started by previous administrations and it is only now that they are being completed just days before elections. Supporters claim that they are important developments that will benefit locals long after President Kenyatta has left office. Whichever side you believe, one thing is for sure: these infrastructure projects will have an impact on many people's lives.
