Kenya General Election 2022

Kenya's next planned general election is set for August 9, 2022. The President, the National Assembly, the 47 county assemblies, the county governors, and the members of the 47 county assemblies will all be elected by the voters.

Overview

 The Constitution of Kenya states that general elections for members of parliament must be held every five years, and the next election is scheduled for 9 August 2022. In case of a dispute or war, an election can be delayed if a resolution is passed in each House of Parliament by at least two-thirds of all the members of the House. 

A delay can last up to six months and may be passed multiple times provided that the delays do not cumulatively exceed 12 months. A presidential election must coincide with the general election per constitutional mandate. 

If the presidency and vice presidency both become vacant before the next general election (with the vice president normally succeeding to the presidency), a presidential election could be called. An election must be held within 60 days of the vacancy in the presidency, as required by the Constitution.

Kenya Decides: 2022 Presidential Candidates

The Kenya 2022 general elections will take place on the 9th of August, 2022, as per the constitution. The election will determine who becomes President of Kenya and will be contested by four presidential candidates who are hoping to win over voters.

The four presidential contestants for the 2022 general election in Kenya include:

1. David Waihiga Mwaure (Agano Party)
2. Prof. George Wajackoyah  (Roots Party of Kenya)
3. Raila Odinga of Kenya (Orange Democratic Movement)
4. Dr. William Ruto (United Democratic Alliance)

The election is organized by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which was established in 2011.
