While briefing the state on the extent of Corona Virus in Kenya, CS for health Prof Mutahi Kagwe said that these are extraordinary times where extraordinary measures must be taken in order to contain this pandemic. A line in his speech read
IF WE CONTINUE TO DO THE THINGS THAT WE DO NORMALLY, THIS DISEASE WILL TREAT US ABNORMALLY.
Most Kenyans are an ignorant bunch of people who do not realize the seriousness of the Covid 19 virus.
The increasing number of patients from 8 to 15 in less than a week was a wakeup call to the authorities where tough measures, especially in air travel and public transport, have been implemented.
All air travels have been canceled starting on Wednesday of this week where all passengers coming into the country will be taken into mandatory quarantine by the government.
The government has also issued a stern warning to foreigners who refused to self-quarantine themselves blaming the new numbers of infections on them.
Following the government directive, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has gone into self-quarantine after recent direct contact with a confirmed patient with Covid-19.
He said he tested negative for the virus.
“I HAD THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM VISIT ME AT MY HOME TO COLLECT SPECIMEN FOR TESTING. I GOT MY RESULTS AND THEY TURNED NEGATIVE,” HE SAID.
Kingi went into quarantine on March 20th.
“WE HAVE ALREADY IDENTIFIED COUNTY STAFF WHO CAME INTO DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE PATIENT AND WE HAVE ORDERED THEM TO GO ON MANDATORY SELF QUARANTINE FOR 14 DAYS,” HE SAID IN A STATEMENT ON SUNDAY.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had said a senior county official had tested positive for COVID-19 and would be charged after completing time under quarantine.
The official defied state orders to self-quarantine after an international trip from Dubai.
